DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES:

ASHTANGA YOGA first series - For those who want a serious workout,
Ashtanga
may be the perfect yoga. Developed by K. Pattabhi Jois, Ashtanga is physically demanding.
Participants move through a series of flows, jumping from one posture to another to build strength, flexibility and stamina.
It's not for anyone who's been taking a leisurely approach to fitness.
The so-called Power Yoga is based on Ashtanga.

SURYASAKTI YOGA is based on Ashtanga-Vinyasa first, second and third series,
combined with Iyengar and Shivananda yoga styles. SuryaSakti practice aims to train your body
and through that educate your heart, mind and soul. We attempt to integrate physical, psychological
and spiritual aspects of yoga practices taken from eastern philosophies and implement them
in the modern western lifestyle.

YOGALATES is based on Ashtanga-Vinyasa first, second and third series,
combined with Iyengar and Shivananda yoga styles and elements of pilates.
It aims to strengthen your body and improve coordination of movements.
This practice is a key element for proper posture and strong and healthy back.

TRANCE DANCE YOGA is an exploration of of natural movement through yoga.
It flows into an exploration of free-form, breath driven movement to liberate one's creative life-force
and generate your personal feeling of freedom. Yoga and dance, both are ways of calling us back
into our bodies and intoxicate us with the life.

THE FULL/NEW MOON MYTH
since we practice Ashtanga yoga, many of you may have heard that we are not suppose to practice on full and new moon days... there have been many speculations among people about why not, main being that the spectacular brainstorm of the gravity-pull of the moon and the sun are affecting our body... that is an "old wives tale". you can look at the effect of the full moon study on this website... http://skepdic.com/fullmoon.html

It has been proven that the effect is notable only on the large bodies of water like oceans and seas, which spread over a large area of the earth and then the moon's gravity can affect it by pulling it slightly in the directions of its location on the sky... The human body is much too small to feel similar effect--he 180 cm of the body's height is just not large enough to feel a different gravity at its toes as it feels at the head.

.... THE REAL REASON why in Ashtanga we do not do the physical practice on full and new moon is that in Hinduism yogis performed lengthy ceremonies and rituals on those days and they simply DID'T HAVE TIME FOR PRACTICE... so not to feel bad about this they set up this rule and it has been brought up to our western culture as well even if we have not rituals on those day...

NOTE: so do not confuse this "day of rest" with a" Sabbath" a Jewish day of rest, when they go as far as to not even pressing the button of the elevator in order not to offend God by engaging in "physical action". So if you are not a Hinduist, you may freely practice on the full and new moon as well, the call is yours.

"There will always be someone stronger than you, someone more flexible, someone with better hair!"
-David Williams

Don't compare yourself with anyone else. At the end of the day try to take what you have learned during the practice off the mat into your life. Only then you will be practicing yoga.

Yoga is not about being able to do postures. One cannot see yoga in action. Any well trained gymnast can come along and 'perform' asana with great ease... this is not yoga!

You will steady your mind and bring health and vitality to your body and enrich your life through just gently bringing yourself as close as you comfortably can to the final state of the asana and breathing! there are always greater challenges... there is no end to it. Putting ones legs behind ones head is absolutely irrelevant to the betterment of mankind.

It is just a tool to straighten out our hearts and minds... its absolutely wonderful that you discipline yourself to practice. Do that and take the pressure off yourself about what you can achieve. Putting to much pressure on ourselves is a recipe for giving up. Yoga is a lifetimes work. We must pace ourselves.
